Hogar Infantil "La Gloria" is located about 13 miles from the U.S./Mexican border. It is home to 54 children who are placed there for a variety of reasons. They are under the custody of the Mexican social services agency (DIF) and we provide the service of housing them because the government cannot provide for all of the needy children.  The children live with us 24 hours a day and are cared for by paid employees who generally live in the surrounding community. The children go to the nearby schools. The children stay with us for different lengths of time depending on their unique situations. Generally they stay through completion of elementary School.

Becky's House

Becky's House is an 18-month transitional residential program for survivors of domestic violence and their children. Ninety percent of the residents complete the program and secure employment and permanent housing. Built in collaboration with the City of San Diego, architect Tim Golba, and STAR Radio, the residential program provides:

    * Case management

    * Legal assistance

    * Counseling, GED and continuing education assistance

    * Job skill assessment and career counseling

    * Art therapy, educational and play activities for children

The YWCA, in collaboration with STAR Radio, the Waitt Family Foundation, Vi and Dan McKinney and other community partners, is building Becky's House 2. Opening in Fall 2007, the 55-bed residence will offer more comprehensive support for survivors of domestic violence and their children.
